  • How to Calculate area needed to Install Solar on my Roof (DIY)

It is 2022 and everyone is talking about going Solar and switching to SciFi Autonomous Electric Vehicles. However, when it comes to installing a Solar you have to make sure a few checklists are true to get maximum output of your Solar Panel. Understand the area required to Go Solar for your home here.

    1. Always check obstacles like tall towers, buildings and trees around the house Specially in East South and West if you are in Northen Hemisphere. Solar works on Sun Light you want to make sure there is no shadow falling on your roof throughout the year (Each day Sun’s Trajectory is different) if you still have doubt you can take help of Solar Design Engineer who will make shadow analysis of 365 days and give a design report.
    2. A general rule of thumb is for 1 kWp Capacity of Solar Panel required approx 100 Square Feet / 10 Square Meter Shadow Free Space up on your roof. If you have 500 Sq Ft Roof than you are probably good to go with 5 kWp System if roof is Shadow free.
    3. Make sure that roof has a strong base which can carry the weight and load of solar panels. For example, Jinko 540 Wp Panel have approx 27 kg / 60 lb weight so if you are installing 10 Panels make sure your roof can withstand 270 kg / 600 lb weight of panels and other loads.
    4. When needed you may also need to add Module mounting structure and increase structure height so obstacles can be avoided and space under Solar panels can be used.

It is exciting to Go Solar! But make this journey safe and beneficial for you and your neighbours. Always follow local safety laws while installing Solar Panels. Post your thoughts below and bookmark this website to get amazing content like this.  (Article written in 2022)

  • Environment and Health Benefits of Green Building

What is Green Building: Green Building is a course of action to Eliminate Negative impact of Building to Environment and create Positive impact on our climate and Environment.

Green Building can have Net Zero Status where building fulfills all its energy requirement by itself or Energy Plus status where building create more energy than consuming. This concept is certified by LEED Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

This is a novel concept majorly pursued by Big city societies and buildings to remain net zero in terms of energy waste and impact on environments. This is achieved by installing Solar panels on Roof so power requirement of society is fulfilled within building itself, reducing waste and recycling it and creating sustainable communities to procure fresh vegetables and fruits directly from farm so there will be minimum trip to vegetable market from society.

Following are Environmental and Health Benefit of Green Building:

    • Net Zero Emission achieved through Green Building will create no Harmful effect on climate hence Green House Effect and Pollution can be greatly reduces.
    • One of the concept of Green Building is to provide maximum natural light to the Building hence increased Energy efficiency and Good health of individuals which will leads to better productivity.
    • If waste is managed internally in building it will create isolate society hence remove dependency on City waste management system and save on fuels rquires to move waste and gives sense of achievement in terms of sustainability.
    • Using Non Toxic material to construct and Furnish Building will promote better life style of Building owners and healthy and safe work Environment for manufacturer of those materials.
    • Green Building required Landscaping and Terrace Garden also Green Building is constructed in a such a way that maximum Air circulation is made hence it improves Health of individuals and elderly.
    • Water used in sink can be treated and used again for toilet and sanitation will not only save water but also reduce water bills.
    • In Green Building Thermal comfort is keep in mind while designing it with innovative idea hence it improve energy efficiency and reduce electricity consumptions.

It is proved that Green Building is only Sustainable way to live is Environmental and Individual Friendly Building and Society . It is noticeable that Green Building Initial cost may be higher compare to normal building however over the period of time it’s benefit surpass the cost of Building itself.

  • How Renewable Energy Helps Economy

Going Renewable is a talk of a every societies in town. However it is very important to understand Economic impact of going with Renewable energy. In this post we will discuss challenges with switching to Renewable energy and How Renewable Energy Helps our Economy.

Challages for Swiching to Renewable Energy

    • Higher Upfront Capital cost, Because technology of Renewable Energy is Quite new early adopter might need to pay cost for technology and manufacturing plant setup cost as a premium therefore prices of new and refined renewable technologies have higher effeciency but it might not be easy on pocket for many people and Societies.
    • Our Infrastructure was not made in such a way so that Solar Plants can be installed on Houses and Societies with Ease. This challanges again solved using Engineering Solutions which again increase upfront cost of Project.
    • Whole purpose of Renewable energy is clean affordable and Efficient energy consumption and Distribution. However in many cases because of lack of proper knowledge and going Renewable just for sake of Saving money on conventional Energy Price volatality. People often use cheap quality material and Maintanance which results more loss than money gained by using cheap materials and improper care of maintanance.

Indian government and various developed nations are working towards switching to Renewable Energy goal however trend for finance flow from Developed nations to Developing Nations is going downwards.

    How Renewable Energy Helps Economy

    • Renewable Energy specially Solar Rooftop will help reducing transmission losses which means more electricity will be used and less will be wasted. And less financial will be wasted on loss making Powerplants operated by Governments.
    • Property with a Renewable Energy will be great value addition to the Property and will definitely increase its Price and demand.
    • With abundance cheap Energy available from Renewable Energy businesses will move towards Renewable and Oil dependency will reduce significantly which ultimately stabilises prices of Energy and basic requirement goods.
    • Renewable Energy will also create indirect work opportunity for many sectors due to stabilised prices of Energy and reliable supply.

Many states in USA and many Developed and Developing countries like China, Germany, UK and India are scaling their pace to for Renewable Sector switching however it required support of each and every person to achieve this goal before it is too late.

  • Vertical axis wind turbine diagram

Wind Turbine is always been useful to generate power from very long time, Over the time it has been made to become bigger and efficient like never before.

However conventional Wind Turbine required great amount of land which is not feasible for Metro cities and densely populated civilization. To solve this problem scientist and engineers came up with solution and it is called Vertical Axis Wind Turbine. It is Single Axis Wind turbine with Vertical Blades which is designed in aerodynamic way so that it can get push from wind in desired manner.

Advantages of VAWT: Following are points to consider if you want to find out if this type of Wind Turbine works for you.

    1. Required less space as Blades are longer in vertical side and close to Axis unlike Conventional Wind turbine where tip of the blade is far away from Axis.
    2. Aesthetically Pleasing appearance make it blend well with buildings of modern time.
    3. VAWT works 24/07 unlike some other sustainable energy generation techniques.
    4. High Mechanical Stability.
    5. Virtually silence operation.
    6. Accept wind from any direction.

    Diagram:

Vertical axis wind turbine can be manufacture using NACA0018 Foil design as below.
